Educating the masses about urban farming will be necessary for a more sustainable future so that people can participate in supplementing their own food source. And it can be as simple as determining the content of a region’s soil. 

 

This project details the process of a basic and easily accessible soil test using materials most people already own. By combining soil with water and allowing it to settle, we are able to see the different particle sizes that compose soil. This information can help improve its quality and identify which plants are likely to thrive in it, resulting in better usage of efficiency and water use.

 

I used the imagery of a seed growing to maturity in order to indicate sequence and to highlight the role of this process in determining soil. Through this diagram, I stress the importance of research and information in all aspects of life, including hobbies such as gardening.
